Bob Hills emerged bleary eyed from the London College of Printing in 1973 with credit and without noticable scars, fully equipped and totally unprepared to face his career as a qualified Typographic Designer.

His ensuing career took him into the creative and not unsteamy cauldron of London's advertising world. Ahhhh... the smell of hot type, wet repro and a Gelliot Whitman depth scale, 10 x 2's for estate agents, lick and stick, cow gum and sleepless nights doing the kind of typo layouts agency typos were either too lazy or drunk to do. What halcyon days they were.

He went on to join various studios and ad agencies sending the roughest of scamps to type houses for the next breed of hardened typos to drool over... The agency world's own brand of geeks (all before the mass use of DTP and our beloved Apple (sighs).

The next three decades were spent craving the design process... anything and everything... nothing was to escaped his evil mind. press advertising, brochure design, packaging, copywriting, media planning, studio management, exhibition design, web design and publishing.... even, yes even cartooning. Lured by the heady scent of the magic marker, the squeak of a Pantone (I think it was a Rhodamine Red-M), introducing a toon or two into his client's projects wherever he could.

Those clients were spread across the various industries: Financial; Pharma; Travel; Industrial; Oil; Chemical; Leisure and Technology, crafting thoughtful ad campaigns, quality visual inducements to buy clients products, stimulating branding and logostyles and quite nice typography too.

He still feels the same enthusiasm and drive, lacks none of the vigour he had all those years since entering his profession. The desire to drink everything dark and frothy in a sleeve may have ebbed but the desire to create healthy visual mischief still exists. This website is but a small reflection of his approach and his skills.

Enjoy.
